As the Director of Biostatics at the University of Maryland Cancer Center, Dr. Thompson was responsible for designing and analyzing numerous studies associated with optimal antimicrobial treatments in patients with profound, persistent neutropenia. Later, Dr. Thompson served as the principal investigator for 2 randomization and interim analysis centers for clinical trials in septic shock performed with Centocor and Synergen. These were phase III clinical trials performed in the United States and Europe.
